SIBU: Four out of five water trucks from the SibuJaya’s Water Fest 2022 will be channelled to Sibu’s eastern bank residents that are affected by low water pressure issues, said Azlan Baqee Abdullah.

The chief operating officer of Amcorp Properties said in order to alleviate the low water pressure issues, the festival organisers will dispatch the water trucks to support residents at the affordable walk-up apartments, while only one will be used during the event on September 16.

Azlan said that Amcorp Properties stand in unity with the people and leaders who have voiced concerns over the low water pressure affecting Sibu’s eastern bank.

In a press release issued yesterday, he said the organiser of the SibuJaya Water Fest 2022 will scale back the upcoming event and channel water to the people in order to use water wisely and to stand in solidarity with communities affected by low water pressure difficulties, while also reducing the two-day festival to only half a day.

“Amcorp is grateful to the Prime Minister’s special envoy to China, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is also the state assemblyman for Dudong, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Local Government and Housing Michael Tiang, and also Sibu Rural District Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, for championing the issue on the people’s behalf.

“The extremely popular water festival, which was carried out in 2018 and 2019, took a backseat during the pandemic and was planned for a September comeback this year, after an earlier news report indicated the low water pressure issue would be resolved by July this year.

“Notwithstanding, the water authorities and other local authorities such as Sibu Rural District Council, have been very supportive of the event, and we are confident they will in due course, solve the issue of low water pressure for this and surrounding areas,” he explained.

Sarawak’s substantial water resources and lack of proximity to a drought-prone region add to the urgency of resolving the issue.

Recognizing that the sudden scale down of the water festival would be disappointing to certain stakeholders and festival attendees, he saw it as a vital measure to demonstrate respect and unity in all matters impacting all stakeholders in SibuJaya.

He expressed his regrets for any disappointment and said that they have to be responsible corporate citizens and implore everyone to strive towards an even bigger and better SibuJaya Carnival next year.
