SIBU: The popular weekend market here has been moved from Taman Mahsuri to Taman Indah effective yesterday (Aug 1).
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting went to the market around 8am to monitor the new location.
“During my visit, the traders I talked to said their business has not changed from the previous place they operated at. However, there are a few stalls that need to be improved.
“Then there are a number of potential traders that approached me, declaring their desire to get a place to trade,” he said.
According to Ting, the council set up 114 trading bays and there were fewer than 10 that didn’t come to trade yesterday morning.
Due to the good response from customers, parking is a problem and there are traffic issues at Jalan Teku.
Thus the council needs to address these problems.
“Overall, I am glad the local people continue to support the Sunday market. The traders seemed to have good business.
“SMC will continue monitoring to make sure that this Sunday market becomes a success,” he said.
