SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has once again woven its magic, adorning Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang with ‘A Classic Christmas’ theme, ushering the joyous spirit of the season into town.
The town square boasts an enchanting spectacle featuring not only a dozen Christmas trees but also an electric train and a snow-making machine, captivating visitors, especially the younger ones.
The festive atmosphere is heightened by the sight of Santa Claus hanging from the towers, as though attempting to deliver Christmas presents to children through the chimney.
SMC Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh commended the organising committee for their efforts in putting up the decorations.
“Isn’t this (decorations) wonderful? I know those who are not of the Christian faith would also enjoy the Christmas festive season.
“I hope this decorated town square will make Sibu proud. We are also celebrating Christmas like other parts of the world,” he said in his speech at the Decorations Arch and Christmas Trees lighting-up ceremony last night (Dec 8).
Meanwhile, organising chairman Councillor Simon Wee echoed Ting’s sentiments, acknowledging the event’s success and expressing gratitude to all contributors.
“We may not be on par with the Christmas decoration events in big cities such as Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. Nevertheless, we have our very own magical Christmas wonderland,” he said.
Various activities will run from Dec 8 to Dec 25 in conjunction with the Christmas celebrations, including a Christmas Parade on Dec 9, Christmas Zumba party on Dec 23; church performances and busking from Dec 18-25 and more.
A total of 87 stalls offering culinary delights and souvenirs are also set up to spoil the public with choices.
