KUCHING: Albert Tang Swee Chung, a 30-year-old from Sibu, clinched the RM10,000 cash prize as the winner of the ‘The Heartbeat of Sarawak’ Sarawak Tourism Short Video Contest.
Tang’s winning video, titled ‘Nature Pulse: The Enchanting Midin’, was his effort in highlighting Sarawak’s unique attractions.
Organised by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS), the competition invited video creators, YouTubers, and students from across Sarawak to showcase the local tourism industry through short videos.
ACCCIS president Kong Chiong Ung stated that the contest served as a platform for local talents, particularly video makers, to not only capture the beauty of Sarawak but also share their distinctive perspectives.
“Through their lenses, participants can vigorously promote Sarawak and attract more people to explore its wonders.
“Given that people nowadays primarily obtain travel information through online platforms, these short videos hold tremendous potential for dissemination, enabling us to promote the charm of Sarawak more extensively.”
Kong was speaking at the prize-giving ceremony of the contest held at the Kuching Chinese General Chamber (KCGC) Innovation Hub here on Friday (March 15).
A total of 45 submissions were received, with eight shortlisted for prizes. The second prize went to Phang Chan Chin of Kuching for the video ‘Heartbeat of Sarawak’, while Ling Chin Sieng of Sibu claimed the third prize with ‘The Heart of Borneo’.
The second and third place winners received RM6,000 and RM3,000, respectively. Additionally, five consolation prize winners each received RM500.
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting; ACCCIS vice-president Datuk Tan Jit Kee, secretary-general Datuk Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, Media Chinese International Limited chairman Tiong Choon, Kuching Filming and Publishing Association chairman Vivizona Lee Min Jie.
