SIBU: The plight of the residents of Rumah Dingun Megong — which was destroyed in a fire —has received the attention of the Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS).

SIDS Sekuau chairperson Rabiah Balang represented Sarawak SIDS president Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling in presenting the assistance to the residents.

Alice, who was contacted, also hoped the residents of the longhouse would remain strong and expressed concern over the state’s long-term fire case involving the loss of property.

“It is our hope that those living in longhouses will always be concerned with safety especially in the kitchen, electrical wiring and so on.

“If possible, all of us must be alert of our surrounding regardless of age — everyone should be cautious.

“High awareness among us may reduce such disasters in the future,” she added.

Touching on the donation handed over by Rabiah, Alice said it was a donation from the SIDS headquarters in Kuching.
