SIBU: Bukit Assek Assemblyman Joseph Chieng has called on students to think about joining the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch, saying they will have everything to gain by doing so.

According to him, MRCS Sibu is always among the first to offer help to the community, especially during disasters, pointing out that this was proven during the three years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hence, he said students will gain a lot of benefits by joining the association.

“You will be able to get trained in first aid lessons which not only benefit yourself but will also be able to save other people’s lives. And this makes a big difference. That’s why it is very important for students (to join),” he said.

Chieng said this at the opening ceremony of World MRCS Day at its headquarters here, yesterday (May 7).
During the event, he also witnessed the handover of 12 units of air conditioners to MRCS Sibu.

“World Red Cross Day also highlights the impact of kindness and compassion in the world. Going just a little out of your way to help those in need can make a big difference in the world,” he said.

“This year, the theme for World Red Cross Day is ‘To highlight the universal. human, and diverse aspects of the Red Cross movement’. The theme focuses on foregrounding the volunteers of the Red Cross and their contribution to society.

“No movement can be successful without volunteers working passionately towards a common cause, and the Red Cross movement is no different. Everything we do comes from the heart. We want to celebrate the people in our communities,” he said.

Also present was MRCS Sibu chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee and MRCS Sibu adviserr Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau’s representative Kelvin Lau.
