MIRI: The Orang Ulus are optimistic about the Federation of Orang Ulu Associations of Sarawak (Forum) building project. The total cost of the project is around RM25million.
The two-storey building sits on a five-acre piece of land adjacent to Miri Hospital and will have a multipurpose hall capable of accommodating 800 people.
On August 20 last year, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg presented a RM10 million grant to Forum to kick-start the project.
The Forum Building is designed to reflect nine of its association members, namely Persatuan Kayan Sarawak, Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak, Rurum Kelabit Sarawak, Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak, Persatuan Saban Sarawak, Persatuan Berawen Sarawak, Persatuan Lun Bawang Sarawak, Petipun Penan Sarawak and Lakiput Sarawak.

Today’s earthbreaking ceremony marks a significant milestone for the Orang Ulus. It shows the inclusiveness of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government and that it cares for other ethnic groups. The construction of this building is timely. Now, the Orang Ulus have a place they can call their home.
