BINTULU: Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai spent time visiting the residence of Bintulu’s Chen Jia Tai Chi Association advisor, Ding Ching Chuan at Taman Suarah, here to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Friday night.
Accompanying him during the visit were his wife, Datin Melia Gelen, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, Bintulu Divisional Resident Nyurak Keti and Bintulu Divisional Public Works Department divisional engineer Lau Pit Hwa.
Upon arrival, Sikie, who is also the Kakus assemblyman, along with his entourage performed a Yee Sang ceremony as a symbol of success, prosperity, happiness and sustenance that will be achieved in the coming year.
He said, despite of different religions and races, the people in Sarawak respect each other’s beliefs.
Sikie said the Chinese New Year’s visit was one of the ways to promote understanding and unity among the people and such a practice should prevail.
