Silat contingent bags 13 medals as tournament closes

MIRI: The Sarawak pencak silat team concluded the six-day Malaysia Games (SUKMA) event by securing two gold medals and six bronze medals yesterday (August 23).

With this success, the Sarawak pencak silat squad has accumulated a total of five gold medals and eight bronze medals throughout the tournament.

The gold medals were won by Mohamad Nurhasri Maxzakir in the Men’s Class E category and Ummi Mashitah Hassan in the Women’s Class B category.

Mohamad Nurhasri achieved a score of 60-58 against Pahang’s Muhammad Raden Sabry Mohd Insan.

Nurhasri was leading in the first round with a score of 21-18, but in the second round, he scored 11 points to Muhammad Raden’s 20.

In the final moments, Nurhasri came from behind and surged ahead with 28 points to secure a narrow victory of 60-58.

Meanwhile, Ummi Mashitah secured a commanding victory with 39 points against Kedah’s Nur Irhamna Qamariah Wira, who scored 24.

Ummi took an early lead with 22 points in the first round to Nur Irhamna’s five points. Despite Nur Irhamna adding nine points in the second round, Ummi remained calm and led in the third round with 13 points, finishing with a total score of 39-24 to clinch the gold medal.

The bronze medals were awarded to Arif Danish Amy Zahril Ramdzani in the Men’s Open 1 category, Rusyaidi Fitri Nazir in the Men’s Class C category, Siti Aizzah Zahamary in the Women’s Class F category, Nur Arieyana Yazmin Saupi in the Women’s Open 1 category, Abdul Afiq Syamil Abdul Juwani in the Men’s Class F category, and Nursyuhada Mohamad in the Women’s Class E category.

Earlier this week, three gold medals were won in the Jurus Wajib (Regu) in the men’s category by Ahmad Danial Abdullah, Mohammad Nur Azlisham Mohd Ali, and Suhaiqal Suhardie; and in the women’s category by Nuradriani Fitri Abdullah, Nur Alfianiz Jordon, and Vivina Anging.

In the solo categories, bronze medals were awarded to Mohammad Shamiezal Shapian in the Men’s Solo Creative category and Zureen Zulyka Zaidel in the Women’s Solo Baku (Tunggal) category.
