MIRI: Sarawak’s silat squad is on the cusp of medal glory after sweeping three finals berths in today’s (Aug 19) competition.
The men’s regu (team) category was the first to book a spot in the final.
The trio of Ahmad Danial Abdullah, Mohammad Nur Azlisham Mohd Ali, and Suhaiqal Suhardie narrowly defeated Johor, scoring 9.915 to their opponents’ 9.905.
Sarawak’s women also excelled, with Nuradriani Abdullah, Nur Alfianiz Jordon, and Vivina Anging securing a final berth. They overcame Kedah with a score of 9.91 to 9.88.
In the creative putra solo category, Mohammad Shamiezal Shapian clinched a final spot after a nail-biting match against Pahang’s Mohammad Shafiq Nazrin. Both scored 9.890, but the judges awarded the win to Sarawak.
However, there was disappointment for the state in the putri solo category. Host fighter Zureen Zulyka Zaidel narrowly missed out on a final spot, losing to Johor’s Nur Syafiqah Aqilah by a mere 0.005 points.
The Sarawak squad will aim to convert their strong performances into medals when the finals take place tomorrow (Aug 20).
