KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) has installed three silt traps near Taman Lee Ling to mitigate the risk of clogged drains and subsequent flash floods.
In a statement, PMC confirmed that the temporary silt traps have been effective and were intentionally constructed.
The council plans to desilt these traps twice a month.
“PMC will continue to remind the developer to monitor their temporary silt traps and carry out desilting as needed to minimize flash flood risks,” it added.
PMC chairman Tan Kai visited the development site near Taman Lee Ling today (Nov 16), accompanied by Datuk Tan Guek Kee, owner of M/S Lee Onn Construction.
Tan added that the three silt traps were specifically constructed to address the issue.
He also urged politicians to refrain from making baseless criticisms against the council.
“PMC has taken swift action, calling the developer to meet with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to find a solution to the flash flood issue in the area,” Tan said.
“It is merely a political stunt for some politicians to issue press statements without verifying the facts.”
