KUCHING: More than 300 members of the Sim Clan converged today (July 28) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Teochew Sim Clan Sarawak.
Vice president of the Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, said the event drew participants from as far afield as Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, West Malaysia, and Singapore.
He said that the Sim Clan is divided into two main groups: the Teochew Sim Clan, which is based in Kuching and celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the Chawan Sim Clan, which is about 90 years old.
“The gathering today is a testament to the history of Chinese migration,” said Sim at the association’s office near Green road.
“Our ancestors came not only to Kuching but to many parts of the world. Besides networking, the event also includes ancestral worship for those with Taoist beliefs.”
The celebration featured a lion dance, ancestral worship ceremonies, and opportunities for clan members to connect. Local cuisine was also served.
