KUCHING: Some 661 heads of families (KIR) from 36 longhouses around Sri Aman received food aid last Sunday.

The aid was distributed through the N32 Simanggang Community Service Centre in collaboration with the Sri Aman Community Welfare Office, assisted by members of the Divisional Disaster Management Committee from the police (PDRM) and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

The first batch of aid was distributed at St Gabriel’s Chapel, Menalang involving 300 KIR of 19 longhouses. The second batch was distributed at SK Nanga Klassen’s multi-purpose hall, Undop and involved 361 KIR of 17 longhouses.

To date, some 1,269 KIR in the Simanggang constituency have received food aid while the rest are set to receive it as soon as supply is available.

The handing-over ceremony was officiated by Assistant Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women Family, and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, witnessed by Sri Aman Community Welfare officer Vivian Engkiong.

Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblyman, said his team was facing difficulties to meet the needs of all needy residents as food supply was scarce amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
