A TOTAL of 27 persons under supervision (OKP) were handled by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in Simunjan as of October 2023.
Deputy Minister of Women, Children, and Community Welfare Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said there is a one-stop committee to address drugs and substance abuse issues (OSC MIDS) at the state level since 2018 to implement a comprehensive MIDS action plan.
“These efforts include controlling the supply and demand of drugs, treatment and recovery, prevention, and strengthening the management of MIDS through the establishment of the MIDS Bureau,” he said.
Razi was responding to Awla Dris (GPS-Simunjan) during Q&A session in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
He said with the establishment of the Drug Abuse Treatment and Recovery Network to expand access to treatment and recovery, the government has set up One Stop Centres for Addiction (OSCAs) at health clinics in Sarawak that have family medicine specialists.
“Community Development and Intervention Centres (CDICs) in collaboration with OSC MIDS at the district level were established for individuals and families affected by substance abuse in Bau and Dalat for the Mukah Division,” he said.
He said the establishment of the Drug Rehab Recovery Committees (JKPD) is to strengthen drug treatment and recovery efforts at the district level.
“To address the issue of drug and substance abuse in Simunjan, the government has taken steps such as placing narcotics officers at the Simunjan district police headquarters, establishing the Simunjan District JKPD, and establishing OSCA at the Asajaya Health Clinic, which is closest to Simunjan district,” he said.
