SIMUNJAN: Automatic teller machines (ATM) and the Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS) provided by Bank Rakyat will soon be available for residents in the Simunjan district.

Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri pointed out that these ATM machines would benefit the residents here as currently there was only AgroBank in the area.

“After meeting with the officers from Bank Rakyat to see the proposed area for the ATM machines, I had also suggested that cash deposit machines be provided here as well.

“This is so that the bank users do not have to queue up and crowd in one bank when there are machines from both AgroBank and Bank Rakyat,” she told a press conference at Rumah Rehat Sri Sadong, Simunjan yesterday (Oct 2).

Nancy also revealed that she had written a letter to the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Tan Sri Noh Omar to get approval to place the machines in the Simunjan district.

“Providing the ATM machines is sufficient in the area as opening bank branches will need certain criteria to be met. In addition, I feel that Bank Rakyat is widespread and that is why it is suitable in districts such as Simunjan.

“When these machines are available sometime next year, they will serve as a platform for traders and farmers to cash in or out their money easily,” she mentioned.

Meanwhile, Nancy was informed there were 693 students who had been inoculated during her visit to the vaccination centre (PPV) at SMK Simunjan No 1, Simunjan.

The students who received their vaccination at the PPV were from the school itself, SMK Sri Sading as well as individuals who came via walk-in. Nancy said today (Oct 3), primary schoolchildren in the area would be receiving their first dose of Covid-19 vaccination.
