BALI: The Malaysian and Singaporean government has agreed to establish Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

This was revealed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who said this means the relations between Malaysia and Singapore will be further improved with the establishment of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Sarawak and Sabah.

“This will boost the economic activities between Singapore and Malaysia, particularly for Sarawak (and Sabah). Furthermore, we have seen an increase of Singaporean tourists’ arrival in Sarawak,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the 2023 World Hydropower Congress today at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre here.

Abang Johari said during the recent 10th Malaysia-Singapore Annual Leaders’ Retreat, he spoke with Federal Minister of Transport Anthony Loke about the acquisition of MASWings Sdn Bhd for Sarawak’s boutique airline by the state government.

He mooted the idea for the Singaporean government to consider allowing the state’s boutique airline coming to Singapore.

“This will further strengthen not only Sarawak’s tourism industry, but also for Singapore. As a hub, there are many tourists coming to Singapore and we would like to bring them to Kuching (and Sarawak) and vice versa,” he said.
