SINGAPORE: Two religious schools in Sarawak have been identified to adopt the Islamic education system as practised at Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah, Singapore.
The two schools are SK Agama Datuk Abdul Kadir Hassan and SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab.
Rural Electricity Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said during his visit to the Singaporean Madrasah, a 93-year-old institution known for having produced many intellectuals who have gone on to become prominent figures in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.
“One of the factors behind its success is its usage of Arabic language as the primary language in teaching and learning.
“We can follow the example laid out by the schools and implement it in our own,” said the Pantai Damai assemblyman.
He added that discussions would be held with agencies under the Sarawak Islamic Council on the plan to upgrade religious schools in the state.
“We will invite the administration of Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah to help us train our educators at their institution.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, and Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha.
