KUCHING: The post-mortem training for National Security Council (NSC) Sarawak Order No. 20 and 21 will propose that the Senari terminal establish a siren system to warn nearby villagers in case of an emergency.
Acting Deputy State Secretary Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said the training, which involved 29 security and enforcement agencies in Sarawak, conducted Phase 1 industrial disaster simulations training recently.
The aim of this disaster training is to ensure that the Independent Oil Terminal Sdn Bhd and departments and agencies are prepared in accordance with the MKN Directive No. 20 and MKN Directive No. 21, he told
reporters.
Ik Pahon said this at a press conference after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak National Security Council (MKN) Post-mortem Disaster Training Command No. 20 and 21 here yesterday.
He added that they were also tested on the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Independent Oil Terminal Sdn Bhd Kuching Sarawak.
The aim is to improve and update the internal SOP and to ensure the SOP is relevant and understood by all departments or agencies.
“With the implementation of this training, I believe that every element of the emergency plan practised by those involved will be improved and acted upon in a disaster situation,” he said.
At the same time, communication between ministries or agencies and departments is also tested to ensure that they can communicate well during accidents and public threats.
Meanwhile, Sarawak security director Wan Samsulri Wan Hasbi said the post-mortem would also see what improvements would be made at Senari Port in-line with the recommendations made by MKN.
The siren proposal will be highlighted as a warning to the two villages involved, Kampung Senari and Kampung Gobeilt, in case of emergencies, he said.
Therefore, he said any weaknesses or shortcomings raised during the post-mortem should be taken into consideration.
