He said the population in Sarawak was growing rapidly which spurred various aspects of development and economic activities such as building of houses and infrastructure, increase of consumption rate and habits and inevitably, the escalating generation of wastes.

“For the ministry, we are committed in formulating policies and strategies that manage these developments in an effective and sustainable manner.

“In fact, these policies and strategies are already in place and actively implemented and enforced at various levels of the government agencies, especially the local authorities,” he stated.

He used the 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) concept as an example for a way to address waste pollution and conserve natural resources.

“Our local councils are actively involved in promoting this practice among the community while cleanliness is an issue we continue to push forward consistently to prevent diseases and maintain an excellent level of public health.

“However, we cannot solely depend on the authorities to take action because it requires the attention and participation from everyone.
