SERIAN: A total of 539 vehicles were subject to checks during a series of special operation since Dec 2.
The operation is jointly carried out by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Immigration Department.
A spokesperson from JPJ said the department had taken action on a total of 136 vehicles for various offences including tactical offences and non-insurance coverage.
The operation also saw more than 163 motorists served notices for various offences while 30 vehicles were seized for further action.
“The joint operation is to enhance road safety as well as to monitor the entry of illegal immigrants into the state.
“The first series was carried out from Dec 2 to 4 which resulted in six foreign drivers being detained from the 15 motorists examined,” he told reporters during an operation at Jalan Kuching-Serian in front of the JPJ headquarters near here, yesterday.
He explained that the six foreign drivers were detained for not having valid travel documents, for overstaying and other offences under the immigration regulations.
Meanwhile, the second series of the operation which was carried out from Dec 14 to 21, comprised 182 JPJ officers and personnel, and 73 officers and personnel from the Immigration Department.
