BINTULU: Six individuals had a near-death experience when the car they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a massive hole along Jalan Tun Hussein Onn this morning (May 1).
Fortunately, the five men and a woman only sustained minor injuries in the 2.50am crash.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant director of operations Henderi Ardimansyah said firemen from Bintulu station were deployed to the scene, which is approximately 6km away, after receiving a distress call.
“On arrival, they found a car had fallen into a pipe excavation hole, and the victims had been rescued by passers-by.
“First aid was administered to all of them at the scene before they were taken to the hospital for further treatment,” he said when contacted.
After ensuring that the situation was safe, the team wrapped up the operation around 3:30 am and headed back to their station.
It was understood that water pipeline upgrading work is being carried out at the massive hole at the junction of Taman Jason.
