PHNOM PENH: Six pencak silat exponents booked their tickets to the final of the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games silat tanding competition at the Chroy Changvar Convention Centre here yesterday.
Nor Farah Mazlan led the march after beating Thailand’s Firdao Duromae 58-36 in the Putri 45-50kg category and will meet Singapore’s Nadhrah Sahrin to decide the gold medal.
Following in Nor Farah’s footsteps was Mohd Shahrul Zeckry Sulaiman who also beat his opponent from Thailand, Aekarat Maehchi 44-42 in the Putra 70-75kg to set up a date with Iqbal Candra Pratama from Indonesia in the final.
Norsyakirah Muksin became the country’s third exponent to book a place in the final after defeating Singapore’s Nur Tuhfah Md Roslan 6-0 in the Putri 45kg semifinal and is slated to meet Indonesia’s Suci Wulandari in the final today.
Not to be outdone, Siti Shazwana Ajak overcame the challenges of home favourite Phyrom Moniroth 46-5 in the Putri 60-65kg competition to set up a date with Atifa Fismawati from Indonesia while Muhammad Izzul Irfan Marzuki beat At Chandy from Cambodia 27-6 in the Putra 60-65kg to face Kadek Andrey Nova Prayada in the final.
Muhammad Robial Sobri swept aside Thailand’s Saranon Glompan 17-10 in the Putra 85-90kg category to book his berth and set up a clash against Singapore’s Sheik Farhan Sheik Alau’ddin for the gold.
Only two exponents from the Malaysian camp failed to advance to the final, namely Afiq Aniq Fazly who lost to Sheik Firdaus Sheik Alau’ddin from Singapore 15-28 in the Putra 75-80kg category and Nur Syazerra Hidayah Idris who was defeated by Indonesia’s Safira Dwi Meilani 39-46 in the Putri 50-55kg. – BERNAMA
