Six polytechnics partake in debating, public speaking event

KUCHING:  A total of six polytechnics participated in the Borneo Zone Inter Polytechnics Public Speaking and Debating 2017 held at Silver Jubilee Hall of Polytechnic Kuching, in Matang last Monday.

The participating polytechnics were namely Polytechnic Metro Betong, Polytechnic Mukah, Polytechnic Sandakan, Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu, Polytechnic Kuching and also Polytechnic Tonggak Equator from Pontianak, Kalimantan.

In his speech to officiate at the closing at the event, Tupong State Assemblyman Fazruddin Abdul Rahman told the young generation to prepare themselves with the right and effective communication skills in effort to achieve the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).

According to him, the young generation especially the students should make the effective communication skills as a culture in their daily lives, including others skills and knowledge.

“With vast knowledge, it is easy for the young generation to convey the messages from anyone, and also voicing out their opinions and views to the government, and relaying it back to the public,” said Fazruddin.

He also noted that young generation must be encouraged to improve their public speaking skills so that the future leaders can communicate properly and effectively with the people about their problems and complaints.

“With that, it is easy for us to develop our country with the full support from the people and becoming a developed country by 2030,” he said.

Fazruddin also pointed out that the government created the TN50 as a manifestation of the openness of the government to listen to the young generation’s voice on how Malaysia should be developed in the next 30 years.

He indicated this clearly showed how important the young generations are to the government.

“It clearly shows the importance of having high level of skills in expressing their opinions to the government,” he said.
