SIBU: The management of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina SJK (C) Kiang Hin here has been praised for upholding the principle of education regardless of race.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang said the school consists of students from various races and backgrounds despite it being a Chinese school.

“It can be seen that each time when Chinese New Year is celebrated, the school never forgets to celebrate it together in a harmonious atmosphere.

“Although Chinese New Year is celebrated by the Chinese community, we can also take this opportunity to invite friends from other races to join this celebration and understand its meaning, including dragon and lion dances, setting off firecrackers, new year’s taboos and auspicious blessing, etc.

“Especially when you see people of different ethnic groups coming to congratulate us is a very warm and touching scene,” he said.

He said this in his text-of-speech read by his representative, Andrew Lau at the school’s Chinese New Year gathering held at a leading hotel here on Friday night (Jan 26).

He also said that the school is capable of producing many excellent students under the management of the existing school management board.

“Thank you to the school management board for making a lot of efforts to help our school and our children achieve success in academics, co-curriculum and also in the formation of character in accordance with ‘karamah insaniah’ in the context of Madani Malaysia,” he said.
