SIBU: The extension project for Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Bahagia Jaya is progressing 1.38 percent ahead of schedule.

According to Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, if the current pace is maintained, the project may be completed ahead of time.

“This project involves constructing a new classroom block with six rooms to accommodate the increasing number of students at the school.

“As of now, the project is 1.38 per cent ahead of schedule,” Aidel said when speaking to reporters at the project site today.

Aidel also said other dilapidated school projects across Sibu are making good progress, with some already completed, though he did not provide specific figures.

Meanwhile, Nangka assemblyman and Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee welcomed the timely extension project.

“The school has been here for quite some time. The population has grown since then.

“Previously, it was just a small village with no development around it. But now it has expanded significantly. So, I think it is timely that we have an extension for the school.

“I want to thank JKR (Public Works Department) for this project, and I hope the project will run smoothly. If it can be completed ahead of schedule, that would be excellent, as the school is already somewhat cramped,” he said.

Dr Annuar revealed that the building specifications consider the area’s challenging soil conditions, which previously caused issues such as the sinking of a toilet block at the same site.

“We are aware that the soil in Kampung Teku isn’t ideal, but we hope that the steps taken in this project will address those challenges,” he added.
