MALUDAM: SK Maludam and SK Pusa emerged as the joint overall champion in Pusa Zone Seri Asrama Terbilang Award Carnival 2017 held at Sri Budiman Hall of SK Maludam on Monday night.
Betong Education Department’s Co-curricolum Unit head, Abang Ahmad Suhaili and Pusa Zone Headmasters Council chairman Hajah Kamisah Ahmad officiated at the prize presentation ceremony.
Six primary schools in Pusa Zone, namely, SK Maludam, SK Pusa, SJK Chung Hua Maludam, SK Muton, SK Pinang and SK Semarang took part in the carnival.
Among the activities held in the carnival were futsal, dance, netball, Bahasa Melayu speech, solo singing and other competitions.
Abang Ahmad, in his speech, said the carnival, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, was an annual event to encourage students to actively take part in sports and co-curricular activities
“Through the programme, it will assist and develop the talents of students in sports and co-curriculum which will enable them to join and be selected for higher level events,” he said.
The carnival is also the main programme of Daily Dormitory Unit of Daily School Management Department of the Ministry of Education.
“It is held in the effort to realise the role and function of dormitories as excellent education centres,” he explained.
He said the carnival would provide assessment to domitory programmes and activities, focusing on the management and administration, and the cheerfulness of the dormitory,” he added.
Meanwhile, the headmaster of SK Maludam, Abang Jus Abang Sulaiman said despite being in rural area, it did not stop the students from excelling in sports and co-curricular activities to help realise the school’s target to become excellent school in sports.
“Besides that, the carnival also help to foster and strengthen the relationship between students, teachers, parents and the villagers,” he said.
