SK Matang Jaya wins “Berceritalah Ayah, Ibu, Guru” competition

KUCHING: SK Matang Jaya was declared the champion of the “Berceritalah Ayah, Ibu, Guru” competition, which took place at SK Petra Jaya here on Thursday (July 4).

The winning team received a cash prize of RM500 and a certificate of recognition. Additionally, SK Matang Jaya also won a special award for the best costume in the competition, earning a cash prize of RM100 and a certificate of recognition.

The runner-up, SK Matang, was awarded a cash prize of RM300 and a certificate of recognition. SK Batu Lintang secured third place, receiving a cash prize of RM200 and a certificate of recognition.

Other participants were given consolation prizes, each receiving RM100 and a certificate of recognition.

Consolation prize recipients included SK Pangkalan Kuap, SK Petra Jaya, SK Kg Baru Samarahan, SK Endap, SK Beradek, SK Rampangi, SK Pasir Pandak and SK RPR Jalan Astana.

In another event, Mohamad Danish Ashyahir Bolhassan from SMK Asajaya emerged as the winner of the news reading competition held on the same day.

His victory earned him a cash prize of RM250 and a certificate of recognition.

Philomena Ann Ritchien from SMK Muara Tuang 2 was the runner-up, receiving a cash prize of RM200 and a certificate of recognition.

Third place was awarded to Nur Zulaikha Husna Sukardi, who received a cash prize of RM150 and a certificate of recognition.

Consolation prizes for the news reading competition included RM100 and certificates of recognition.

SK Petra Jaya hosted both the “Berceritalah Ayah, Ibu, Guru” competition and the news reading competition as part of the Sarawak-Level National Reading Decade 2024 celebrations.

The “Berceritalah Ayah, Ibu, Guru” competition was organised by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Sarawak Branch to promote the use of standardised Malay language pronunciation among children, parents and teachers.

The competition received support from various organisations, including the Sarawak State Library, the Sarawak State Education Department, and the Kuching, Padawan, and Samarahan District Education Offices.
