SK Rakyat gets RM100K from chief minister

KUCHING: SK Rakyat located at Satok will receive RM100,000 for the school to carry out its activities.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who made the announcement, said that RM50,000 would be given to the School Management Board and another RM50,000 the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG).

He made the surprise announcement after officiating at SK Rakyat Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Carnival held at the school compound yesterday.

“You can use the money to carry out useful activities or cover other necessary expenses,” he said.

The two-day STEM Carnival was co-organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Education Department, Ministry of Education Science and Technology Research (MESTR), SK Rakyat and N8 Education Bureau.

Earlier in his speech, Unimas vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suadi said Unimas had been actively involved in promoting STEM education to students, teachers, parents and the local community in various avenues and programmes including through the establishment of the STEM Education Lab in SK Rakyat.

“This is also in line with Unimas’ aspiration to support the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) of preparing quality education for all and to reduce inequalities,” he stressed.

The carnival features a moment with four professors from Unimas — Associate Professor Dr Norsiah Fauzan from the Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development, Association Professor Dr Johari Abdullah (Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology), Professor Dr Asri Said (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and Professor Dr Andrew Ragai Henry Rigit (Faculty of Engineering).

Other activities included robotics, engineering, STEM Playzone, STEM Explorace, ICT Games, STEM colouring competition and water rocket competition for students.
