KUCHING: While the rest of us are scratching our heads on how to pass the time indoors during the movement control order (MCO), a man from Kabong chose to draw faces of his heroes.
Dubbing himself Captain Art, 29-year-old Mohd Ridzuan Hassan said, he was called to create his works of art after seeing others doing the same on social media.
Drawing the faces of both Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Ridzuan said both men are his heroes.
“I started to do sketching on their portraits on April 3 and was very impressed with the work done.
“Our leaders are top priority people, especially when the nation is battling with the Covid-19 pandemic,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
Ridzuan said drawing the portraits is his own way of showing his appreciation to the leaders.
“The A4-sized drawings will be stored in my artwork collection as it is very meaningful to me,” he said, adding that drawing has been his hobby and talent ever since he was a schoolboy.
“I have only been actively drawing portraits from 2015 until now, and I have finished more than 100 portraits,” he said.
Ridzuan sells his artwork within the price range of RM30 to RM100, depending on size and the type of photo that is being drawn.
Admitting that he has no teachers to teach him drawing skills, he said YouTube was where he can learn something.
“But I am grateful, with my interest in drawing, I can master many things (at once). Maybe one day I can be a great artist like Heather Rooney, who is my idol,” he said.
Among the subjects of his artwork are Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir, Kalaka assemblyman Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
