KUCHING: The second edition of Sarawak Kids Got Talent (SKGT) 2019 will be held on Oct 23 at the Imperial Hotel here.

Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang is expected to officiate at the event.

According to Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the event will showcase the performances of the overall winners of competitions held at the agency level.

The agency level competitions were conducted at Commerce Mall Bintulu on Sept 7, Civic Centre Kuching (Sept 8), Infra Samarahan (Sept 19) and Mydin Petrajaya (Sept 22, 25, 28 and 29).

SKGT 2019 is a collaboration of the state agencies namely, Social Welfare Department (JKM), Social Development Department, SeDidik Sdn Bhd, National Unity and Integration Department and Education Department.

The competition categories are Public Speaking (Bahasa Melayu, English and Iban Language sub-categories), Drawing and Colouring, Dancing, Solo Singing and Special Talent. Participants are those age six and below.

“The event aims to discover and highlight talent and potentials apart from exposing these little children to competitions,” Fatimah said.

She added the winners of each category will be invited to a one-day workshop on Oct 21, two days before the event, where they can enhance and improve their performances through proper guidance, training and professional advice from the experts.

“Although they are still young, we believe that their potential should be nurtured at a young age,” she told reporters at a press conference at Baitulmakmur building here,
yesterday.

Fatimah added another separate workshop will be held next year. This will focus on developing the skills of the teachers in certain aspects such as vocal coaching, dancing and public speaking, to ensure that they can continue to nurture the kids’ talent development to the highest level.

She said her ministry hoped that the kids’ achievements would be recorded in their kindergartens’ profiles so that they would have specific record when they enter primary school.
