SARATOK: A man, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs and had injured a teenager with a machete, was arrested by police Sunday after hours of avoiding being caught at Kampung Hilir Kaba.
Saratok District police chief DSP Mordani Tanin said that around 11am last Saturday (June 27), they received a report from the teenager’s sister who brought the injured teenager to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
According to the complainant, she received information from Kampung Kaba villagers about a man who became angry and slashed a 14-year-old boy with a machete.
The victim who suffered injuries to his head, arm, hand and thigh, was rushed to hospital and is now in stable condition.
“The 35-year-old man ran away to his house in the same village and got onto the roof by climbing through a hole in the ceiling. He had with him an axe and the machete that he used to slash the boy,” he said in a statement.
Saratok fire and rescue station was alerted on the incident around 4.21pm to help get the man down from the roof.
In a report from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firemen used a ladder to approach the man to persuade him to come down.
“Around 11.30pm, the man eventually came down and hid inside his room on the top floor.
The report said as he was still armed, the police used a shield to enter the room around 3am. In response, the man jumped out of the room and ran into the bushes near the house.
Villagers soon apprehended him in a bush about 70 metres from the house and handed him over to the police around 4.40am.
