KUCHING: Sarawak today (Sept 8) recorded a slight decrease of positive cases as compared to Tuesday. The 3,100 new positive Covid-19 cases upped the state’s case tally to 140,912.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) revealed that of these new cases, 3,096 or 99.87 percent were in Categories 1 (no symptoms) and 2 (mild symptoms) while four or 0.13 percent were in Category 5 (lung infection and requires ventilator).

“A total of 2,525 cases or 81.45 percent were in Category 1 and 571 cases or 18.42 percent were in Category 2,” it said in a statement.

Kuching recorded the highest number of new cases among the districts with 804 cases, followed by Sibu (379), Samarahan (252), Bintulu (231), Lundu (155), Bau (152), Asajaya (133), Miri (91), Betong (84), Sri Aman (83), Simunjan (71), Serian (69), Pakan (67), Song (66), Subis (64), Pusa (47), Kapit (45), Mukah (38), Saratok (37), Tebedu (36), Tatau (32), Limbang (24), Sarikei (21), Lubok Antu (20), Lawas (19), Julau (19), Selangau (18), Matu (11), Kanowit (9), Meradong (5), Marudi (5), Kabong (4), Beluru (3), Sebauh (3), Belaga (1), Bukit Mabong (1), and Telang Usan (1).

“Of the new cases, 2,088 are individuals who had contact with positive Covid-19 cases, 163 are individuals in existing active clusters, 418 are from symptomatic individual screenings at health facilities, 424 are from other screenings at health facilities, and seven are individuals who had just returned or entered from other states in Malaysia (Import B) — four from Selangor and one each from Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor,” said the committee.

The committee said 1,846 cases had been discharged from hospital wards and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) in the state.

Of this total, 885 were discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC, Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (216), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) PKRC (207), Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (124), Serian PKRC (99), Mukah PKRC (86), Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (83), Betong PKRC (80), Miri Hospital and its PKRC (36), Limbang Hospital and its PKRC (14), Sarikei Hospital and its PKRC (13), Lawas PKRC (2), and Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC (1).

“This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases in Sarawak to 105,801 or 75.08 percent of the total number of cases,” said SDMC.

As of today, 34,292 active cases remained in the state.
