MIRI: The Chinese New Year seems to have little or no impact on the sales of bus tickets here.
Yesterday morning there was no big crowd at Pujut bus station. There was no jostling for tickets for those who were going to their home towns or villages for the holiday.
According to a staff member who wished to be anonymous, the tickets sales were slow.
“Business is a bit slow, so we are operating as usual although it’s the Chinese New Year,” he said.
Still, the bus ticket counters will operate until 10pm daily.
There are no additional buses for the festive season.
Meanwhile, shopping malls are doing their part to boost the festive mood by hanging red lanterns and lamps, and displaying the usual festive goodies.
Most of the shoppers, however, opted for moderation instead of splurging on their favourite things.
A shopper, who wished to be known as just Liong, said she only bought what she needed the most for the celebration.
“For example, I am here to buy cookies, and I always compare prices. I choose items that have reasonable prices,” she said.
Liong explained that she could not afford to spend a lot as she had other commitments.
