KUCHING:  The Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) tennis centre is ready to host the coming Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 and is a prime candidate for the 2027 SEA Games.

SLTA president Datuk Patrick Liew said the facility is not just built for the coming Sukma but SLTA intends on going for future international events.

He added that SLTA has consistently hosted international tournaments with at least five matches each over the past 25 years and is excited to show off the courts.

“I think a lot of the athletes will be quite happy that the tennis (courts) here are internationally standard.

“These courts are recognised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Asian Tennis Federation (ATF).”

Liew was speaking to reporters after the Diplomatic Relations Friendly Tennis Tournament here on yesterday (July 28).

The centre features 13 courts, with two dedicated to practice and 11 ready for competitive matches.

Adding further, he said that Mirzan Mahathir, the president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM), has verbally agreed to let the centre host the tennis competition for the 2027 SEA Games.
