KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian today handed over contributions from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund to Sekolah Menengah Min Lit Batu Kawa, here.
The funds will be for the school to prepare it for the upcoming reopening of classes.
“The contributions will be of some help as Chinese middle schools in Malaysia are self-funded through donations,” he said in a Facebook posting today.
He assured that the state government, since the administration of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, gave financial support to Chinese schools through annual grants, set aside state lands, and recognised the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
“In Sarawak, Chinese schools are for all races,” he added.
Dr Sim said he was made to understand that Sekolah Menengah (SM) Min Lit Batu Kawa would be among 63 Chinese middle schools which will receive thermo scanners from a non-governmental organisation in Kuala Lumpur.
On the Covid-19 scourge, he said everyone should play a role to curb the spread of the disease.
“Please play your part. Together, we shall overcome this Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
