KUCHING: The Smart Community Programme initiated four years ago must be reviewed to suit current needs, said Local Government and Housing Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Bakrie Zaini.

“It has been four years since the programme started and it is time for a revisit and to do some changes to it,” he said at the ministry’s Smart Community Project Awards (AMKTP) 2019 and Awards for Excellent Service (APC) 2018 presentation ceremony at a hotel here Friday.

Bakrie said according to feedback received from the rural areas of the state, rural-based local councils need to improve their services.

He said redesigning the programme to make it more effective would ensure that rural folk would not be deprived of local council services.

Bakrie said much of the feedback received was about environmental issues.
