SIBU: The Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development is proposing for every school in Sarawak to be equipped with smart televisions.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the televisions could facilitate the teaching process for educators and is essential in the internet driven era.
“Ideally, we would suggest to the state government that schools without smart TVs should receive them. We are aware that national-type schools (Sekolah Kebangsaan) already possess many smart TVs, but we have also commenced the programme for religious schools (Sekolah Agama).
“If we can secure funding from the state government, we want to ensure that every school in Sarawak has easy access to smart TVs for teachers, especially in this IT age where it is a necessity,” he said.
The Nangka assemblyman said this when met by reporters after attending the Hari Raya celebration at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abang Ali here last night (April 19).
To date, Dr Annuar said that he had distributed a total of 36 smart televisions to 9 schools in his constituency since last year.
“Eighteen smart televisions were allocated last year, with another 18 to be provided this year. Going forward, we will collaborate with Parent-Teacher Associations to secure funding, ensuring that every classroom in the Nangka constituency receives a smart television,” he added.
Earlier, Dr Annuar visited three houses in Teku as part of the Bejarah Raya programme in the Nangka constituency.
The programme, which involved more than 22 houses was to foster visitation traditions during the festive period among the younger generation.
Also present were a political secretary for Premier of Sarawak Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, SK Abang Ali headmaster Hamdi Nadji and SK Abang Ali Alumni Association (Paskaa) chairman Datuk Mohamad Yusnar Matalie.
