SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh has expressed his commitment to advocate for the improvement of facilities at SK Sibu Jaya.
He highlighted the school’s urgent need for a new school hall and a 100m-long awning at the entrance to enhance the safety and comfort of its students.
With nearly 2,000 students in attendance, he emphasised the importance of a school hall and assured the community that he would communicate this necessity to Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, their local representative for the Dudong constituency.
“I must say also, I don’t want it to be political. Your MP is Alice Lau. Talk to her too. She is the Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat. So, I think she has the power to get this thing done quickly,” he added.
Ting made these statements during his speech while presiding over the Books Build Legacy programme, which was conducted in partnership with Business Event Sarawak (BESarawak) as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, at SK Sibu Jaya on Friday (Nov 3).
Earlier, SK Sibu Jaya headmaster Jabut Minda highlighted the school’s lack of a school hall despite its establishment in 2002. He reiterated the dire need for such a facility to adequately accommodate the school’s significant student population.
Furthermore, Ting acknowledged that Jabut had brought to his attention the necessity for an awning at the school’s entrance. This facility would provide students with a place to wait for their parents, particularly during hot and rainy days.
The event was also attended by BESarawak chief executive officer Amelia Roziman.
