SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has assured that genuine traders will be provided with spaces to trade.
Its chairman Clarence Ting said the council would award traders who show persistence in their undertakings.
He gave the assurance when visiting Taman Indah Sunday Market here today.
During the visit, stall owners and customers expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Ting.
As stalls were doing brisk business, Ting was glad to know that the council provided the location for them to trade every weekend.
“Today, SMC has opened additional stalls due to numerous requests for trading spaces.”
He noted that the council had to cement a nearby green area to cater for new trading spaces.
“However, the absence of some vendors who have received permits through balloting but did not turn up to trade was a disappointment. We will award spaces to genuine traders, those who show persistence,” he said.
For now Ting said the aim was to maintain cleanliness in view of the growing number of traders and visitors.
