KUCHING: SMK Bandar Samariang was picked to participate in the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) competition along with 15 other secondary schools from every state in the country.

This programme, initiated by UMW Toyota Motor in collaboration with the Ministry of Education since 2001, aims to foster environmental awareness and involvement among high school students.

The main goal of the competition is to challenge the younger generation to address environmental issues using Toyota’s 8-step Problem Solving Methodology (PSM).

The students representing SMK Bandar Samariang in the TEY competition are Affy Feyrisha Sim Kennday @ Badrul, Sofea Mohd Zulkarnain, Alisha Asyraaf Anderson, and Muhammad Za’im Muhammad Reza, collectively known as the Dharini Team.

The issue they will be focusing on is illegal dumping and its impact on the environment at a location where domestic waste disposal activities have marred the area’s image with piles of rubbish, including coconut shells, plastic waste, construction materials, electrical equipment, and worn-out tires.
