KUCHING: SMK Oya, Mukah emerged as the champion of the State-Level Youth Forum Competition 2018 held at Balai Budaya, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Cawangan Sarawak, Petra Jaya here yesterday.

The school team with its Forum Topic “Cinta Remaja: Bahaya atau Derita?” grabbed the Sarawak TYT Challenge Trophy, RM5,000 cash, DBP’s published books and a Recognition Certificate.

SMK Marudi, Miri, which came second, bagged RM4,000 cash, DBP’s published books and a Recognition Certificate.

SMK Kabong, Betong, which came third, received RM3,000 cash, DBP’s published books and a Recognition Certificate.

SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (SHOAW) Kuching and SMK Pesantren  Abdul  Taib Mahmud, Samarahan, received the  consolation prize of RM1,000 cash, DBP’s published books and a Recognition Certificate each.

The Best Chairman of the State-Level Youth  Forum 2018 was Sareena Cynthia Gerawat from Team SMK Marudi, Miri. She received a RM500 cash prize, DBP’s published books and a Recognition Certificate.

The Best Forum Member was Nazatul Erna binte Abdul Malik of Team SMK Oya, Mukah. She received a RM500 cash prize, DBP’s published books and a Recognition Certificate.

Eight other participating teams  received RM500 cash, DBP’s published books and a Participation Certificate each.

The Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud presented the prizes  to the winners.

Taib hoped to see more races taking part in the Youth Forum  in future. He also pledged  to provide more financial assistance to organise the forum in future.

Also present  at the event were Assistant Minister of Education  and Technological Research, Dr. Annuar Rapa’ee and the Director General of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Malaysia, Datuk Haji Abdul Adzis Abas.
