SMK Saribas, SMK Pusa shine in STPM in Betong District

DEBAK: SMK Saribas and SMK Pusa have emerged as the top performing schools in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2022 results in the Betong District.

SMK Saribas achieved a School Average Grade (GPS) of 3.21, making it the best school in the district. Additionally, SMK Saribas also obtained the best results in the district for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022.

SMK Saribas principal Mohamad Lela Alamshah expressed pride in the remarkable achievements of the school’s students this year.

“We teachers are committed to ensuring excellence in STPM as well as SPM continues.
“I am proud to say that with a GPS of 3.21, we are in the top 10 in the group of big names from Sibu and Kuching.

“Or more precisely, in seventh place out of 82 Form Six centres throughout Sarawak besides the best in Betong District,” he said on Thursday (July 13).

The performance of SMK Saribas in STPM this year is a record-breaking achievement, reflecting continuous improvement over the years.

“Since 2016, the school’s GPS has shown consistent growth, reaching 3.21 in 2022. Notably, Mohamad Qhairul Nizam Mohamad Hashim and Nurul Mardhah Peni achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00, and 29 candidates obtained a CGPA of 3.00 or above, surpassing the results of STPM 2021.”

Another school in the Betong District, SMK Pusa, also excelled with a GPS of 3.02, securing the 16th position out of 82 Form Six centres in Sarawak and ranking as the second-best in the district.

This marks a significant improvement from the previous year, with an increase of 0.14 in the GPS compared to STPM 2021.

SMK Pusa principal Saini Bakar expressed pride in the achievements and mentioned plans to make History an optional subject and introduce Visual Art as a subject for all candidates to enhance their CGPA and strive for a perfect score.

“There are two candidates with CGPA of 3.92, namely Kamanilammazura Amran and Shahrulnizam Yusuf. Twenty-eight candidates obtained a CGPA of 3.00 or above.”

Saini expressed gratitude to all parties involved, particularly the hardworking teachers, for their contributions to SMK Pusa’s success.
