KUCHING: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sebuyau full replacement construction project which was approved in the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) Rolling Plan 1 of 2016 is now at the design preparation stage, said Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek.
According to her, the scope of the project covers the construction of 36 classrooms, a dormitory for 500 students and other facilities with a cost of RM95,764,300 and the construction period is for 36 months.
She said this in reply to Batang Lupar MP Shafizan Kepli during question time at the current Parliament session on Tuesday (Feb 28).
Fadhlina added that there is a need to change the design of the project to a seismic design in line with the Malaysian Seismic Disaster Zone Map for Disaster Management issued by the Department of Mineral and Geosciences Malaysia.
“This causes an increase in costs. This cost increase application will be raised to the Ministry of Economy for approval and this project is expected to be tendered in early June 2023.
“The Ministry of Education (MoE) is committed to providing safe infrastructure, including ensuring that the building design is safe and meets the construction scope,” she said.
