SMK St Patrick snaps up top two prizes in waste competition

MUKAH: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Patrick and Maradong and Julau District Council emerged champions in their respective categories in an ‘Invention from Waste Materials’ competition at the Inno-Waste programme held at Dewan Suarah Mesra here on Thursday and Friday.

SMK St Patrick won the top two prizes and received RM1,700 in total (1st prize RM1,000 and 2nd prize RM700) while Maradong and Julau District Council took home RM1,000.

Third-placed SMK Three Rivers received RM500 for the team’s effort.

First runner-up Subis District Council bagged RM700 and second runner-up Matu-Daro District Council pocketed RM500.

Meanwhile, SK Dua Sungai was judged the most beautiful booth followed by SK St Patrick in second and SK (Agama) Majlis Islam Sarawak in third, while SMK St Patrick and SMK Three Rivers received consolation prizes.

Mukah Division Resident Hamdiah Bakir who officiated at the event presented the prizes to the winners.

The two-day programme was organised by the Local Government and Housing Ministry in conjunction with the state-level Civil Service Innovation Week 2019.
