KUCHING: The second stage of the Proof of Concept (POC) test for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Hydrogen Vehicle (H2V) has received praise for its impressive performance and potential impact on Sarawak’s transport system.

As this public transport transformation undergoes its first-time testing with the public, specifically media practitioners and civil servants, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Earlier, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the POC test at the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Tower 2, The Isthmus here today.

In the initial 40 seconds of my ride, I felt quite comfortable, and the hope we have for Sarawak’s transport system was clear – we want more ARTs to be placed on all the main roads in Sarawak because this is good quality transport. However, I thought that the ART would have more speed like the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) in West Malaysia. Thank you to the Sarawak government for the efforts.

The ART doesn’t quite resemble a traditional train, which is exciting. While it may not be operating at its full speed, I find its current pace quite enjoyable. The interior design is comfortable, and I don’t feel like I’m stumbling while the ART is in motion.

The ride was exciting because I get to experience riding the ART for the first time before it is officially launched to the public. This facility will be a valuable addition for Sarawakians, and I take pride in our government for creating such a remarkable public asset.

If I were to compare the ART to KL Express or the LRT, the ART feels smoother unlike the other two where it is noisy because of the rails used. The ART is pretty much like I anticipated; it is convenient because it has its own road lane, and it operates quietly when in motion.

I am immensely proud that Sarawak now boasts such modern facilities, and members of the public should support this initiative to promote the use of public transport. While it is similar to a bus, the use of hydrogen gas as fuel is an environmentally friendly choice. Supporting this public transportation is a step towards preserving our natural environment.
