KUCHING: This month the Enforcement Division of the Royal Customs Department Kuching Office managed to foil two smuggling attempt cases with the confiscation of ganja (cannabis) weighing a total of 5,130 grams worth a total of RM14,400.
In the first case on 15 March, the Enforcement Division of Customs Department Kuching managed to confiscate a package at the Pos Malaysia Kuching Office. Upon checking it was found that the package contained ganja (cannabis) weighing 1,9745 grams with an estimate value of RM5,600.
A 30-year-old local man was also detained for further investigation.
In the second case, the Enforcement Division of the Royal Customs Department Kuching Office managed to confiscate a package from a car (Perodua Viva) at a house along the Samarahan Expressway here on 19 March.
During a check it was found that the package contained ganja (cannabis) weighing 3,155 gms worth RM8,800.
Two local women and three men aged between 21 and 23 years were detained and a car (Perodua Viva) was seized for further investigation.
The two cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
