KUCHING: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng is hopeful Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will also merge one day.

He said in the event this would further strengthen the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), of which both are presently component parties.

“Hopefully one day PDP and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) can merge together since both parties have historical links,” he said in a Facebook post on the dissolution of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

He floated such hopes while welcoming the PSB’s decision to dissolve, paving the way for its leaders and members to join PDP.

Sng, who is Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president, described it as a positive matter.

“P.O.V. (point of view), the dissolution of PSB with its members joining PDP is a good move,” he said, holding out hope for a similar merger bettwen PDP and PRS.

PSB initially founded as United People’s Party (UPP) was officially launched on Aug 17, 2014.

UPP was then re-branded as PSB after an Extraordinary Delegates Conference (EDC) on Dec 8, 2018.

The dissolution of PSB was officially announced during a party to welcome former PSB members into PDP at a hotel in Sibu on Saturday (Apr 6).

Former PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said the now-dissolved party was advised by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to hold their Special Delegates Conference on Feb 1.

“We met on March 11 and we received the dissolution letter’s approval on March 19. PDP has since accepted PSB members en bloc into the party,” he said.

With the dissolution of PSB, PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing also announced that Wong has been appointed as PDP senior vice-president while former PSB deputy president Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa and secretary-general Baru Bian were appointed as PDP vice-presidents.
