KUCHING: News of Larry Sng stepping down as Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman is not a surprise, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information chief Datuk Idris Buang.
He said the political party was already ‘kucar-kacir’ (a mess) at the national and state levels.
“For it to act on anything right now, like reorganising, I think it is too late-lah. The state election is already around the corner,” Idris told reporters after attending the inaugural Sarawak Energy Vendor Awards (Seva) 2020 held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Monday (Dec 21).
Earlier, Sng, who is the Julau MP, posted in his Facebook account that he would be stepping down as Sarawak PKR chairman.
He said it was in its best interest for the party to be led by a Dayak leader during the 12th state election.
“I believe that this change within the state PKR’s leadership will augur well and lend the party more credibility in its fight against economic inequalities in the private sector, inequalities in the selection and promotion in the public service and in addressing native customary land issues.
“I will discuss this matter and the selection of my replacement with my party president in the coming days,” said Sng.
