KUCHING: Social media is the perfect platform to disseminate government information and news in this era of modern technology.
Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) director Samuel Simon said that UKAS therefore uses social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, Instagram, YouTube and WhatsApp Messengers to keep the people up to date on various development agenda by the state government.
“On another note, UKAS news is broadcast five times a day, especially in Malay, Iban and this year, we have started our Chinese news edition,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to UKAS media partners who always share the news on their respective platform.
“This is where UKAS plays the role to both complement and supplement the local media with our news in the true spirit of Segulai Sejalai,” he said during the fifth anniversary celebration of UKAS here on Tuesday (August 1).
UKAS has been a unit under the Chief Minister’s Department in 2018, now known as Premier’s Department, beginning March 1 2022.
During the anniversary celebration, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg launched the new UKAS logo with the tagline “Saluran Infromasi Rakyat” and a book published by UKAS titled Hope and Transformation.
Abang Johari also handed over certificates of appreciation to representatives from media agencies in conjunction with the celebration.
At the moment, UKAS has over 177 staff and officers all over Sarawak and its headquarters is at the Baitul Makmur building I in Petra Jaya.
Present during the anniversary celebration were Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Speaker of State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee, Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
