KUCHING: The countdown has begun for GoBald 2024, the annual awareness and fundraising campaign by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).

The event is scheduled for this weekend on June 29 and 30.

Last year, the GoBald campaign raised over RM900,000, with more than 160 participants shaving their heads.

This year, SCCS aims to surpass this by raising RM1 million and enlisting 500 participants.

Funds raised will be used to enhance and expand support services for children with cancer and their families, including a budgeted RM920,000 for medical aid, with over RM630,000 already spent this year.

Participants eager to join the cause by shaving their heads and raising funds to support children with cancer can still register online at www.gobald.my. Registration remains open until June 30.

“Entering its sixteenth year, GoBald stands as Sarawak’s first and largest head-shaving charity event, dedicated to raising essential funds and demonstrating public support for children battling cancer,” the society said on Tuesday.

“The second and final leg of the main shave event will take place this Sunday, at the Centre Court, AEON Mall Kuching Central, from 12.30pm to 6.30pm.

“This year’s theme, ‘Beacon of Hope,’ underscores the crucial role ordinary individuals play as symbols of hope for children with cancer and survivors.”

Alongside the head-shaving, the weekend will feature a variety of family-friendly activities.

SCCS urged the public to participate this weekend to show support and help make a difference in the lives of children with cancer.

Every contribution is vital in reaching the RM1 million goal to aid these brave children and their families.

GoBald participants can choose to fundraise only, shave their heads, or both, with a minimum of RM50 required for a sponsored head shave by SCCS.

Registration for satellite shaves remains open for businesses, organisations, and corporations wishing to partner with GoBald as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Interested parties can contact SCCS at 082-686276 or email em1@sccs.org.my.
